The news: Medical imaging company Pro Medicus has signed a $10 million deal with University Hospital Heidelberg and the German Cancer Research Institute to provide its flagship Visage 7 enterprise imaging platform.

The numbers: The five-year contract will see Pro Medicus replace and consolidate three legacy picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) at the two institutions and their associated hospitals Thoraxklink Heidelberg and KKH Bergstrasse.

University Hospital Heidelberg is one of Germany's largest medical centres, with around 2,600 beds and 14,000 staff members. The German Cancer Research Institute is the country's largest biomedical research institution, with over 3,400 employees from more than 90 nations, comprising around 1,490 scientists.

The context: Pro Medicus said its Visage 7 platform will allow the institutions to consolidate their disparate legacy systems, streamline workflows and provide clinicians with improved tools for complex imaging studies.

What they said: "With Visage 7, we are gaining a future-proof platform that can support our clinicians with the most advanced diagnostic tools, while enabling researchers to work seamlessly with imaging data at scale," said Oliver Reinhard, chief information officer at Heidelberg University Hospital.

"This is essential for our mission to translate scientific discoveries rapidly into improved outcomes for patients."
