Qantas shareholders lodge 83% protest vote against pay
The news: Qantas shareholders have lodged an 83% protest vote against the company's remuneration report as frustration mounts at the beleaguered airline.
The numbers: Shareholders have put Qantas and its board on notice, with 82.98% voting against the remuneration report, only 66% voting in favour of re-electing marketing guru Todd Sampson to the board and 24% voting against chief executive Vanessa Hudson's long-term incentive plan.
The context: Outgoing chair Richard Goyder has refused to answer questions on the airline's controversies, the Australian Financial Review reports, including how much leadership knew about an impending ACCC investigation when Goyder authorised former boss Alan Joyce's sale of $17 million in shares before the investigation became public. He also declined questions about awarding Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's son a Chairman’s Lounge membership.
