The news: REA Group’s chief product and audience officer, Melina Cruickshank, has departed the company after being overlooked in its search for a new chief executive.

The context: Cruickshank’s departure was announced by the company’s outgoing CEO Owen Wilson in an email to staff on Thursday, following more than six years with the company.

Cruickshank was an internal candidate in the running for CEO of the News Corp controlled real estate company, but missed out to former Car Group CEO Cameron McIntyre, who was first reported to be in the running for the job by Capital Brief. He was appointed on 18 August.

The Financial Review first reported Cruickshank’s departure on Thursday.

What they said: “We can confirm that Melina Cruickshank, chief product and audience officer, has resigned from REA Group to explore new opportunities,” an REA spokesperson told Capital Brief.

“We thank Melina for her contributions over the past six years and wish her well in her future endeavours. We welcome Jonathan Swift to the role in an interim capacity.”
