Resolute Mining flags no impact to Mali gold mine after Al-Qaeda-linked attacks

The news: Resolute Mining has confirmed that its Syama gold mining operations in Mali continue uninterrupted despite reported Al-Qaeda-linked attacks in the capital city of Bamako and across four other cities in central and northern parts of the country.

The context: The company said its operations are in southern Mali in the Sikasso Region, about 30 kilometres from the border with Côte d’Ivoire. Resolute told the exchange there has been no impact to safety of personnel, supply chains or production at this stage.

Mali was hit by a string of coordinated attacks over the weekend including a West African affiliate of Al-Qaeda. Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed in an attack on his residence in the town of Kati, according to a government statement.

What they said: “Resolute continues to closely monitor the situation and remains in regular contact with local authorities, security advisers and in-country teams,” the company told the exchange.

“The safety and wellbeing of employees and contractors remain the Company’s highest priority, and established security and travel protocols are in place.”
