Rio Tinto reiterates Pilbara iron ore guidance despite cyclone damage

The news: Rio Tinto has reiterated its Pilbara iron ore guidance and has resumed shipments following the passing of Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
The numbers: Pilbara iron ore shipment guidance for 2026 is still the range between 323 million and 338 million tonnes.
In addition to the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Mitchell in February, adverse weather has impacted 8 million tonnes of iron ore shipments. Rio Tinto says it has identified a pathway to recover around half of those losses.
The context: Rio Tinto closed its four Pilbara iron ore port terminals on 24 March 2026. Shiploading at East Intercourse Island, Parker Point and Cape Lambert B recommenced on 28 March.
Damage at Cape Lambert A is being repaired and shipping is expected to recommence “in the coming days”, according to Rio Tinto.
