Santos’ Pikka LNG project on-track for earlier than mid-2026 start
The news: Santos’ Pikka oil project in Alaska still has the opportunity to start earlier than the guided mid-2026 date following completion of a key milestone for phase one of the project.
The context: In Santos’ June quarter update, the oil and gas company said “an early start-up for the project remains possible, subject to a successful Mackenzie River lift of remaining processing modules”.
Santos announced on Thursday that key processing modules had arrived by barge at Oliktok Point, Alaska from the Hay River Marine Terminal, Canada.
Remaining processing modules from the Pacific northwest are scheduled to arrive during August while a seawater treatment plant fabricated in Batam, Indonesia is currently on tow.
Pikka is almost 90% complete, with Santos currently drilling its 21st oil well. Once online the Pikka project and the Barossa LNG project are expected to uplift Santos’ production by 30% by 2027.
What they said: “Our highly capable team that delivered early completion of the pipeline in just two winter seasons followed by a successful river-lift of key processing modules, has created the opportunity for early startup and production from Pikkam,” Santos managing director and CEO Kevin Gallagher said.
