The news: Saudi Arabian AI company, Humain, has invested USD3 billion ($4.25 billion) in Elon Musk’s xAI, becoming a “significant minority shareholder” in the AI startup.

The numbers: Humain said in a statement on Wednesday that the USD3 billion investment took place just prior SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI earlier this month.

The context: The companies said that the investment will go towards developing a 500 megawatt data centre in Saudi Arabia, as part of a partnership established in 2025 to help build out the country’s AI infrastructure, deploying xAI’s Grok models across the country and turning the kingdom into a leader in AI technology.

“Together, these initiatives deepen long-term alignment and extend HUMAIN’s role from strategic partner to leading global shareholder in xAI”, the statement said.
