SBS appoints Nicholas Pappas as chair

The news: South Sydney Rabbitohs chair Nicholas Pappas has been appointed chair of SBS by Communications Minister Anika Wells. 

The context: He began in the role on 5 March. Deputy chair Christine Zeitz had been acting as chair since July 2025. 

In addition to his role on the board of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Pappas is president emeritus of The Hellenic Initiative Australia and is a non-executive director of the Steve Waugh Foundation, Australia and the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne. 

He has also previously served as president and on the board of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and as chair of the Bank of Sydney. 

What they said: “Dr Pappas is a natural fit at the SBS, bringing an impressive array of senior leadership experience across the legal, financial, sports and cultural sectors,” Wells said. 

“This appointment provides continuity to the SBS as it continues its important work in fostering quality, multicultural content that speaks to our diverse communities.
