SBS names Jane Palfreyman as managing director

The news: SBS has appointed Jane Palfreyman as its managing director for a five-year term, effective 12 May.

The context: Palfreyman has served as the company’s acting managing director since 28 August 2025, ahead of her permanent appointment.

She brings over 25 years of media experience, including 15 years at SBS, where she previously served as the chief marketing and commercial officer. She also held senior roles at Nova Entertainment, London-based Global Radio and Southern Cross Austereo.

What they said: “The Board has great confidence that Jane will continue to lead SBS with clarity and purpose — driving commercial growth, delivering engaging content in over 60 languages, and ensuring the organisation remains trusted and relevant to all Australians,” SBS chair Nicholas Pappas said.
