The news: Public sector consulting firm Scyne Advisory has appointed Google executive John Ball as its inaugural independent CEO.
The numbers: Ball has served has head of Google's customer solutions business in Australia and New Zealand since 2014, having previously spent nearly 20 years with Microsoft in roles across Australia, South East Asia, China and the US.
The context: Ball, who is also a board member and deputy chair at Cure Cancer Australia, will join Scyne on 5 November.
The company said the appointment meets a "key undertaking" made to the Department of Finance to recruit an independent CEO to lead Scyne.
Scyne was originally spun out of PwC Australia, which sold its government business to Allegro Funds for a dollar, after the audit and consulting giant was found to have misused confidential government information.
As part of the fall out from the PwC Australia tax scandal, the Department of Finance issued a new procurement policy note on the "Novation of PwC contracts to Scyne Advisory", which advised public sector agencies to use Scyne and saw nearly 120 PwC partners and almost 1000 staff join Scyne.
Richard Gwilym, who has been acting in the CEO role for the last 15 months, will now focus on his substantive role as the advisory business leader.
In July, as part of a restructure Scyne cut 90 roles, including more than 10 managing director roles.

Scyne chair John Mullen said in a statement: "The board conducted a thorough process using globally renowned recruitment agency Derwent to assist us with the search".
"The shortlist contained a number of very high-quality individuals from diverse backgrounds, and we were pleasantly surprised by the depth of talent interested in this role."
