Seven Network's fair work lawsuit heads to mediation
The news: Former Seven Network employee Amelia Saw's fair work lawsuit against the television company will head to mediation, after a first Federal Court mention in the case in Sydney on Friday.
The context: The case, lodged before the Federal Court of Australia on 6 September relates to allegations made by Saw against other employees of Seven, falling under breaches of general workplace protections.
Maurice Blackburn is instructing barrister Lisa Doust while Johnson Winter Slattery is instructing barrister Vanja Bulut.
Federal Court of Australia Judge Nye Perram is presiding over the matter and a date for mediation has not been decided.
What they said: While Seven's lawyers wanted to wait for meditation to take place after evidence was filed in the case, Doust told the court "we don't think its going to be a matter where any of the evidence is going to catch the respondent by surprise".
"The matter traverses a relatively limited timeframe, [involving] interaction between the applicant and the respondent’s employees," she said.
