Shemara Wikramanayake to step down as Macquarie CEO, Greg Ward named as successor
The news: Macquarie Group has announced the retirement of managing director and chief executive officer Shemara Wikramanayake, effective 6 November, to be succeeded by Greg Ward.
The context: Ward currently serves as the head of banking and financial services for Macquarie Group, having joined the company in 1996. Prior to this role, he served as the global chief financial officer for 14 years before being appointed as deputy managing director.
What they said: “I take confidence in the strength of the team, and particularly Greg’s ability to build on the legacy of our six decades of history,” Wikramanayake said.
“We have worked together for 30 years, and his track record, leadership and integrity make him an excellent candidate to be Macquarie’s next CEO,” she added.
