The news: Vulcan Energy has signed a EUR40 million ($65 million) framework agreement with German-based technology conglomerate Siemens to provide engineering, automation, telecommunications for its Lionheart project.

The context: Under the agreement, Siemens will serve as the Main Automation Contractor for Vulcan’s commercial lithium extraction plants across Landau and Frankfurt. This will also encompass engineering support, cybersecurity infrastructure and safety systems associated with the design and lifecycle services.

The agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year, which states Siemens as the preferred supplier until 31 December 2035 for the current Lionheart project and its future development phase.

Siemens had also invested EUR67 million as part of Vulcan’s EUR2.2 billion financing deal that was inked in December.

What they said: “We are pleased to be working alongside Siemens who have a vast local prepense and history working in the broader region, and bring decades of experience in delivering engineering, automation, telecommunications, and digital technology systems to similar types of industrial projects,” Vulcan Energy CEO Cris Moreno said.
