Silex Systems’ US licensee lands $144m for laser enrichment facility

The news: Silex Systems’ exclusive licensee of its uranium enrichment technology Global Laser Enrichment has received preliminary approval of a USD98.9 million ($144 million) comprehensive incentives package to develop the Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility (PLEF).

The numbers: GLE has also been selected to receive up to USD28.5 million from the US Department of Energy to advanced laser-based uranium enrichment development.

The context: The comprehensive incentives package comprises tax and other economic incentives subject to GLE meeting investment and job creation thresholds.

What they said: “We are greatly appreciative of the support for GLE’s PLEF from the Commonwealth of Kentucky and McCracken County,” Silex CEO MIchael Goldsworthy said.

“With an advanced Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing effort underway, ongoing focus on technology and manufacturing maturation programs and full-scale preliminary detailed design for the PLEF, we welcome the support for the PLEF from US federal, state, and local partners as we progress towards the commercial deployment of the world’s first laser-based uranium enrichment plant.”
