SkyCity appoints new Adelaide MD amid review
The news: Casino operator SkyCity Entertainment has appointed its interim Australia chief operating officer Avril Baynes as managing director of its Adelaide operations.
The context: Baynes was appointed as interim COO Australia in April and is responsible for SkyCity's Adelaide business and overseeing the Australian inter-state gaming business.
She first joined SkyCity in 2015 as an executive manager at the SkyCity Darwin casino, until the gambling group divested its interest in the casino in 2019. She was general manager of the Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin from 2020 to 2023 before rejoining SkyCity in 2023 as its hospitality general manager at SkyCity Adelaide.
South Australia's Liquor and Gambling Commission is currently investigating the suitability of SkyCity's Adelaide casino licence. Justice Brian Martin was due to report his findings by 31 December
What they said: "I'm delighted that Avril has agreed to lead our team in Adelaide on a permanent basis," said SkyCity CEO Jason Walbridge.
"She has led our uplift activities in Adelaide over the last five months and will continue to prioritise these alongside working closely with our regulators," he said.
