SkyCity COO resigns, follows departure of CEO and CFO
The news: SkyCity Entertainment's chief operating officer David Christian has followed in the footsteps of the company's former CEO and CFO by resigning from the troubled casino operator.
The numbers: Christian was appointed as group COO in February 2021 after joining SkyCity in 2005. He will step down on 12 April.
SkyCity shares were down 1.33% to $1.85 by 2:32pm AEDT and over the 12 months has lost 18.14%.
The context: SkyCity said that Avril Baynes has been appointed to the role of interim COO Australia from 13 April. Baynes has served as general manager of hospitality at SkyCity Adelaide since November 2023, having been general manager of the Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin from May 2019 to November 2023.
Christian's departure follows the recent resignations of SkyCity's former CEO Michael Ahearne and CFO Julie Amey, as the company faces claims of non-compliance with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing laws in both Australia and New Zealand.
SkyCity's New Zealand subsidiary faces a civil penalty proceeding brought by the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs, while the group will also appear before the Federal Court of Australia in June.
What they said: SkyCity's interim CEO Callum Mallet said: "David has held a number of senior roles during his career with SkyCity since joining in 2005 and has led the SkyCity Adelaide business through a very challenging and demanding period, demonstrating strong leadership and resilience."
