The news: Troubled casino operator SkyCity Entertainment has appointed former AMP finance boss Peter Fredricson as its new chief financial officer.

The numbers: Fredricson will join SkyCity on 5 August, subject to regulatory approvals. He will replace Julie Amey, who will leave the group in September.

He has previously served as CFO of wealth management giant AMP as well as CFO of energy infrastructure owner APA Group.

The context: Newly-appointed CEO Jason Walbridge said Fredricson will play an important role in delivering the company's strategic plan.

The dual-listed Skycity last month lowered its earnings expectations and suspended dividends amid a challenging economic environment and looming penalty payments to regulators.

The casino operator saw an exit of senior management earlier this year, with its then-CEO, chief operating officer and CFO departing after the company faced claims of non-compliance with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing laws in both Australia and New Zealand.

SkyCity shares are down more than 20% so far this year.
