The news: Snowy Hydro has appointed its chief transformation officer, and former Fortescue executive, Maia Schweizer as its new chief operating officer.

She fills the vacancy left by Roger Whitby who is retiring after more than 40 years with the company.

The context: Schweizer joined the federal government-owned energy company in March 2025.

She has previously worked at solar panel manufacturer SunDrive as chief commercial officer, was a director at the now-defunct green hydrogen-focused Fortescue Future Industries and was the inaugural chief executive of state-owned energy company CleanCo Queensland.

Whitby first joined Snowy Hydro in 1984 when it was known as the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Authority and was appointed chief operating officer in February 2016.
