Star chair takes leave of absence from Bendigo and Adelaide Bank role
The news: The Star Entertainment Group chair David Foster has requested a leave of absence from his role as chair at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank while Star is in the midst of a second NSW inquiry into the troubled casino's suitability.
The numbers: Foster has been chair of the bank since October 2023 and chair of Star since December 2022.
He has also been chair of Youi Insurance since August 2019 and a non-executive director of G8 Education since February 2016.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank non-executive director Vicki Carter stepped into the role of interim chair as of today. She has been part of the board since September 2018.
The context: Monday’s public hearing heard that Foster and former Star CEO Robbie Cooke plotted to oust special manager Nicholas Weeks.
Weeks was appointed to Star in late 2022 by the NSW Independent Casino Commission to monitor the company after it was found unfit to hold its gaming licence in Sydney due to faking documents, misleading authorities and ignoring money-laundering risks.
