The news: Star Entertainment Group has appointed Bruce Mathieson Jnr to serve as CEO following the departure of Steve McCann earlier this week. The decision was made at a board meeting held on 16 December 2025.

Star Entertainment shares rose 11.91% to 0.11 cents as of 11:22am AEDT.

The context: The C-suite change follows Mathieson's decision to take on additional duties as executive chairman while a search for a new CEO was conducted. Soo Kim has now been appointed as the board's chairman.

Star also announced the resignation of non-executive board directors Peter Hodgson and Toni Thornton, effective 16 December 2025.

The board will now comprise Soo Kim, Bruce Mathieson Jnr and George Papanier.

What they said: "We are fortunate to have Bruce lead our company as CEO. George and I understand what an honour and responsibility it is to join and contribute to the board. We are confident our best days are ahead," Star's chairman Soo Kim said.
