The news: Star Entertainment Group has tapped former Crown executive Jeannie Mok as its new group chief operating officer.

The numbers: Mok will start at the company from 11 June. Her last role was as the chief transformation officer at Crown Resorts, which included designing and launching the rival casino operator’s transformation strategy and overseeing the delivery of its culture, governance, technology and operations remediation programs. She has also previously held senior positions at Lendlease.

The context: Star said in a statement late on Thursday that Mok will lead the remediation efforts at the company with new chair Anne Ward saying the appointment would strengthen the company’s leadership team as it focuses on implementing the necessary reforms.

The decision comes with the embattled casino operator in the midst of a second inquiry by the casino regulator in NSW to decide whether Star has done enough to change its culture since its licence was first revoked in 2022, and its suitability to operate casinos in NSW.

It is also facing regulatory troubles in Queensland that could lead to the suspension of its gaming licence in that state. Earlier this month, Star confirmed it had received potential takeover offers.
