The news: Bitcoin accumulator Strategy Inc reported USD14.46 billion ($20.87 billion) in unrealised losses on its digital assets holdings in the first quarter as the price of Bitcoin tumbled over 20% during the period.

The numbers: In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing published by the Michael Saylor led company on Monday, the firm said as of 31 March 2026, it held USD51.65 billion in digital assets.

The figures were included in a filing which announced Strategy’s purchase of 4,871 Bitcoin from 1 April through 5 April for USD329.9 million, pushing its holding of the asset up to 766,970 tokens bought at an average price of USD75,644.

The context: Strategy Inc, which typically buys Bitcoin every week had paused its buying pattern from 23 March, marking its first paused for the year.

Monday’s purchases were made through sales of Class A common stock and at-the-market sales of the firm’s Stretch preferred shares.

Bitcoin slid sharply from 2025 highs above USD125,000 to a 15-month low earlier this year, as a selloff in technology stocks impact digital assets. The slide saw Strategy’s holdings fall below their average purchase prices of over USD75,000 at the end of Q1.
