More news: Super Retail was the worst performer on the ASX 200 in early trade after is first-half trading update missed market estimates.

Shares were down 5.8% to $14.81 at 11am AEDT.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Michael Toner said Super Retail's first-half profit before tax guidance of $172 million to $175 million missed consensus estimates by 7.1%, driven by discounting and promotional activity during the period.

Realised gross margins were softer across Super Retail's brands, Toner said, particularly in sportswear chain Rebel, which drove a 13.7% miss to average profit before tax estimates.

Toner noted that the group's outdoor retail chain BCF was particularly impacted by weather and environment factors in Victoria and South Australia.

What they said: "We expect market focusses on softer margin result today and [gross margin] contraction likely a negative read for apparel retailer profitability in December," Toner said.
