Super Retail Group settles legal claims aimed at ousted CEO Anthony Heraghty

The news: Super Retail Group said it has confidentially settled workplace litigation relating to former CEO Anthony Heraghty's alleged affair with the company's previous HR boss Jane Kelly for "an amount less than" the previously expected range of $30-50 million.

The context: The Supercheap Auto and Rebel owner said the litigation was settled without any admission of liability. The group flagged in April last year that it expected to face a legal claim from two employees over the non-disclosure of a relationship between Heraghty and Kelly.

The allegations had also included inappropriate company travel; bullying, victimisation and adverse treatment; particular employees in the corporate team having unreasonable workloads, insufficient resources and restricted access to information; and unsatisfactory company record management.

Super Retail fired Heraghty last week after the board received new information regarding the workplace relationship, determining previous disclosures were "not satisfactory".
