The news: TPG Telecom has entered into a wholesale mobile virtual network operator agreement with Swoop Holdings through its subsidiary Moose Mobile, transitioning its customer base away from the Optus network.

The context: Under the agreement, Moose Mobile will access TPG’s mobile network with the aim of strengthening Swoop’s mobile offering across Australia, having previously utilised the Optus 4G and 5G networks.

Swoop did not explicitly explain the reason for moving away from Optus, but said the new agreement with TPG is expected to deliver a gross margin improvement of 50% across FY27, FY28 and FY29. The deal will also support its target of growing its mobile subscriber base to more than 180,000 subscribers over the next three years.

The company is also deploying a new billing platform and launching eSIMs simultaneously, initiatives it says will improve the customer experience and support deeper relationships with households.

What they said: “This partnership is further proof that the strength of our mobile network is driving greater competition and giving Australians more choice,” TPG group executive Jonathan Rutherford said.
