Sydney Airport appoints Transurban’s Scott Charlton as new CEO
The news: Australia’s biggest airport operator has appointed outgoing Transurban CEO Scott Charlton as its new chief executive.
The numbers: Charlton will take over as Sydney Airport CEO from 1 December after bringing forward his departure date from Transurban by a month. He had helmed the country’s biggest toll road operator for 11 years before announcing his retirement in February. He takes over from Geoff Culbert, who resigned in May.
The context: Sydney Airport Chair David Gonski welcomed his board’s decision and said Charlton would bring strong commercial, operational and project delivery experience, along with a deep understanding of government and the Australian regulatory environment. Separately, Transurban said its CEO-designate Michelle Jablko will assume her new role as scheduled after the annual general meeting on 19 October.
