The news: Australian life insurer TAL has expanded its five-year agreement deal with Microsoft to accelerate its cloud and AI capabilities through infrastructure and skills investment.

The context: Under the collaboration, Microsoft will co-invest in TAL’s engineering capability to consolidate its data on Azure and develop a suite of AI tools.

These AI suites include a chat-based knowledge assistant for claims-related queries by tapping into the company’s internal knowledge base, and an AI-powered post-call summarisation tool that transcribes and summarises claims in real time.

TAL also said it will work with Microsoft to design programs to build AI capabilities across the organisation.

What they said: "Expanding our longstanding partnership with Microsoft means we can significantly scale and speed up our innovation in products and services all underpinned by TAL’s principles for ethical and responsible AI, ensuring a secure operating environment for our customers, partners and people,” TAL chief information officer Hinesh Chauhan said.
