Tech stocks lead ASX as Nvidia's Jensen Huang unveils new line of RTX GPUs

The news: The tech sector advanced on the ASX for the second consecutive session, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight, as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang delivered the opening keynote at tech event CES 2025.

The numbers: Technology was the best performing sector by 2:45pm AEDT, climbing 1.5% as the ASX 200 added 0.3%.

Siteminder (3.6%), NextDC (3.3%), Macquarie Technology Group (2.6%), Life360 (2.5%) and Xero (2.1%) led the rally. WiseTech Global, which announced the acquisition of ImpexDocs this morning, edged 0.4% higher.

The context: The rally tracked gains on Wall Street overnight, where all of the so-called 'Magnificent Seven' tech giants ended higher, ahead of the start of Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Nvidia's Huang delivered the first keynote of the event today, unveiling the company's latest line of RTX graphic processing units. He said the new RTX 50 series will hold twice the performance of the previous versions.

Huang also told attendees that Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell AI chips were in full-production.
