Telstra could cut up to 650 jobs with India outsourcing plan: ABC
The news: Telstra has told staff that around 440 jobs will be cut if the company progresses plans to outsource work to India-based technology company Infosys, the ABC first reported.
This would be in addition to the 209 layoffs in Telstra's AI joint venture with Accenture, announced on Tuesday.
The context: Telstra CEO Vicki Brady said the job cuts will impact the company's enterprise and customer divisions, according to the report.
What they said: "These proposals are intended to help us reduce complexity, be more competitive and operate more efficiently and sustainably," Brady reportedly wrote in an email to staff.
"This is important for us to deliver on our Connected Future 30 ambition by providing simpler, faster and more competitive experiences for our customers."
