Telstra names new CEO for infrastructure business
The news: Telecoms giant Telstra has named Microsoft’s Steven Worrall as the new chief executive of its specialist infrastructure business, Telstra InfraCo.
The numbers: Worrall will start in his new role on 1 September. He will take over from Telstra InfraCo’s current CEO Brendon Riley, who will retire on 30 September after 13 years in the position.
The context: Worrall is currently Microsoft’s Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, and has previously held senior roles at IBM. Telstra Group CEO Vicki Brady said Worrall was a highly regarded leader known for strong delivery in global tech, Artificial Intelligence, and business and consumer segments and for his collaborative approach to working with public and private sector partners, stakeholders and internal teams.
Telstra InfraCo manages an asset portfolio including 250,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable, 370,000 kilometres of duct, 160,000 poles, and thousands of fixed network facilities including data centres, cable landing stations and satellite ground stations.
