Tesla knew of vehicle defects before recalls: Reuters
The news: Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla was aware of recurring flaws with its cars, in particular steering and suspension, but instead blamed customers, according to a Reuters investigation.
The context: Reuters said it has have reviewed thousands of Tesla documents that pertain to more than 20 customers from around the world. The documents include customer interviews and repair reports from Tesla service centres between 2016 and 2022.
The news outlet said the records show those at the Elon Musk company have long known much more about defects than they have told regulators.
Musk and Tesla had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
What they said: "Have you ever heard of anybody having to replace the axles when you didn’t have an accident," Tesla customer Trace Curry said in the story.
