The news: Toll road operator Transurban has appointed former NAB chief financial officer Gary Lennon to its board as a non-executive director.

The numbers: Lennon spent seven of his 15 years at NAB in the top financial spot, and has held senior global executive roles with Deutsche Bank and KPMG. He will begin his directorial role on 18 March 2024.

The context: Transurban looks set for a financial focus in 2024, after former CFO Michelle Jablko took the reins as chief executive and managing director from Scott Charlton, who took the top job at Sydney Airport this month. The group will be looking for alternate routes for growth after the ACCC blocked its bid to buy a majority stake in Horizon Roads, the only other private toll road operator in Australia.

What they said: "Gary brings a depth of financial and accounting experience which is highly relevant and valued and which will further enhance the Board’s sound financial and governance credentials," Transurban chair Craig Drummond said in a statement.
