Treasurer extends reform roundtable invites, launches public consultation

The news: Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced that representatives from the Productivity Commission, business lobby groups and trade unions have been invited to the government's upcoming Economic Reform Roundtable and launched supporting public consultation.
The context: Chalmers will host an economic reform roundtable between 19-21 August to help the government come up with ways to boost the country’s lagging productivity as well as to increase economic resilience and budget sustainability.
The roundtable invitations that were issued today went to:
- Productivity Commission chair Danielle Wood
- Australian Council of Trade Unions secretary Sally McManus
- Australian Council of Trade Unions president Michele O’Neil
- Business Council of Australia chief executive Bran Black
- Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Andrew McKellar
- Australian Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox
- Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia chair Matthew Addison
- Australian Council of Social Service chief executive Cassandra Goldie
Australian Council of Trade Unions assistant secretaries Liam O’Brien and Joseph Mitchell will attend as alternates for the secretary and president.
Starting today, the Treasury is undertaking a public consultation process that will then inform the Economic Reform Roundtable Process. Submissions can be submitted on the Treasury website until 25 July.
In particular, the Treasurer is welcoming views on how to improve Australia’s tax system after signalling his ambitiousness at an address to the National Press Club on 18 June.
The roundtable will also be informed by five productivity inquiries being undertaken by the Productivity Commission.
