Treasury Wine Estates adds former NZX CEO Mark Weldon to board
The news: Treasury Wine Estates has appointed former NZX chief executive and Olympic swimmer Mark Weldon to the company's board as an independent non-executive director, effective 1 October.
The context: Weldon is the owner and founder of Terra Sancta, a winery and cellar door based in Bannockburn, New Zealand. His wine industry experience also includes a term as chair of the Central Otago Winegrowers Association and as director of New Zealand-based Sileni Estates.
Weldon was formerly CEO of NZX for 10 years between 2002 and 2012. He also spent three years as CEO of Mediaworks between 2014 and 2016.
Weldon is a former swimmer and represented New Zealand at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
What they said: "Mark will bring to our board deep experience in wine, leadership in sustainability and climate advocacy, and an extensive understanding of capital markets," said Treasury Wine chairman John Mullen.
"Mark's perspective and insight will be invaluable to our board and I am delighted he will be joining us."
