Trump appoints Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison and Jensen Huang to tech panel

The news: US President Donald Trump has appointed a suite of tech heavyweights to a technology council to advise the administration on science and technology, including AI policy.

The context: A White House statement on the appointments released Wednesday said that the President’s Council of advisers on Science and Technology (PCAST) brings together the US’ foremost luminaries in science and technology to advise the President.

The council, co-chaired by David Sacks, previously White House AI and crypto czar, and Michael Kratsios, another technology adviser, will include an initial 13 members:

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle executive chairman Larry Ellison, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Andreessen Horowitz co-founder and general partner Marc Andreessen, Executive vice chair of the Oracle board of directors Safra Catz, CEO of Advanced Micro Device Lisa Su, Founder, chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, Michael Dell, Oklo co-founder and CEO, Jacob DeWitte, co-founder of Coinbase, Paradigm and Nudge, Fred Ehrsam, Ohalo Genetics co-founder, chairman and CEO David Friedberg, physicist and Nobel Laureate John Martinis, and CEO of Commonwealth Fusion Systems Bob Mumgaard. The While House said that PCAST will focus on topics related to the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies present to the American workforce, and ensuring all Americans thrive in the Golden Age of Innovation.

The council could ultimately include 24 people, according to an executive order signed by Trump in January.
