The news: Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed on Monday that he received a text message from US President Donald Trump over the weekend saying that he is no longer interested “purely” in peace after failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

The context: The message from Trump, first reported by PBS news, said: “Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump wrote, adding he still wants “Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

Støre told Norwegian news outlet VG that Trump’s message came in reply to a “short message to President Trump from me earlier in the day, on behalf of myself and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb”, in which he asked the US President for a conversation.

Trump’s increasingly aggressive stance on the US taking control of Greenland intensified over the weekend, after announcing that he would hit European countries that stood against his plans for the territory with tariffs from 1 February this year.

Earlier last week Trump doubled down on his calls for Greenland to become US territory ahead of the talks via Truth Social, stating that the island is “vital for the Golden Dome” the US is building. He added that NATO should be “leading the way for us to get it.”

The news comes after the Kremlin on Monday confirmed that Trump invited President Vladimir Putin to join the US President’s planned ‘Board of Peace’ set up to mediate in Gaza and other geopolitical hotspots.
