Trump threatens more Latin American countries; eyes now on Colombia and Cuba
The news: US President Donald Trump has threatened Colombian President Gustavo Petro, suggesting a US operation in Colombia “sounds good” to him.
“Colombia is very sick, run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States. And he’s not going to be doing it very long,” Trump said, according to Bloomberg.
The context: Trump warned other drug-producing nations in the western hemisphere he would no longer tolerate the flow of illegal substances into the US, following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, and said several other countries needed to change their ways.
He added that a US military intervention in Cuba is unnecessary, saying he believes the country is close to collapsing on its own.
What they said: "Cuba is ready to fall. Cuba looks like it’s ready to fall. I don’t know … if they can hold that, but Cuba now has no income. They got all of their income from the Venezuelan oil," Donald Trump said.
"They’re not getting any of it. Cuba literally is ready to fall. And you have a lot of great Cuban Americans that are going to be very happy about this."
