US senators call for Tesla recall: Reuters
The news: Two US senators have called on Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk to recall any unsafe steering and suspension parts, Reuters reports. Earlier in December, the publication also revealed Tesla had blamed customer error for failing parts the automaker knew were defective, landing owners with replacement and repair costs.
The numbers: A review of Tesla documents found tens of thousands of Tesla owners have had issues with faulty suspension or steering parts, going back at least seven years across the automaker's entire model range. Tesla has disputed Reuters' claims.
The context: Tesla said the Reuters' report is "riddled with incomplete and demonstrably incorrect information" and the headline is "wildly misleading" in a lengthy post on X, formerly Twitter.
What they said: "We write with extreme concern following recent reporting about Tesla’s knowledge of safety flaws in its vehicles and concealment of the causes of these flaws from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration," the letter signed by senators Richard Blumenthal and Edward J. Markey reads.
