The news: Viva Energy told the exchange that repairs to restart sections of its Geelong Refinery impacted by a fire in mid-April will take “approximately six weeks” before it can be restarted during June.

The context: Once repairs are made to safely restart the Residue Catalytic Cracking Unit (RCCU) and associated units, production at the refinery is expected to increase to over 90% of capacity.

While the RCCU is offline, the refinery is expected to produce diesel and jet fuel at about 80% of capacity and petrol at approximately 60%.

The company continues to investigate the cause of the incident as well as assessment of damage and duration of repairs.

The company also confirmed that it has engaged with its insurers relating to the incident, including property damage and business interruption.
