The news: Westgold Resources has achieved gold production of 98,854 ounces with an all-in sustaining cost of $2,802 per ounce in the fourth quarter, bringing the full-year output to 387,354 ounces, slightly exceeding its previously guided target of 345,000 to 385,000 ounces.

The context: The miner attributed the positive output growth to record mining rates achieved at its Bluebird South-Junction underground mine, with annualised mining rates surpassing 1 million tonnes per annum at the end of the quarter. It also recorded record annual gold production across its Meekatharra and Fortnum operations.

Westgold achieved an underlying cash build of $233 million in the fourth quarter, marking the strongest treasury position in the company’s history. The company is now completely debt free and remains fully unhedged.
