The news: Banking major Westpac will bring in Commonwealth Bank executive Paul Fowler as the new head of its business and wealth division, to fill the position previously held by current group CEO Anthony Miller.

The numbers: Fowler will start his role mid year, the bank said, and will take over from Peter Herbert, who has been the acting CEO of the division since November after Miller was elevated to the group CEO job.

The context: Fowler is currently the executive general manager for regional and agribusiness banking at Commonwealth Bank, which he joined in 2015.

Prior to CBA, he spent a decade in corporate finance, with roles at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.

What they said: “I know Paul will bring a strong customer focus, experience in leading high performance teams and a drive for results in this important segment of the market for Westpac,” Miller said.
