Westpac taps Macquarie Group’s Richard Heeley as chief information officer

The news: Westpac has appointed Richard Heeley as its chief information officer (CIO) to start later this year, succeeding Scott Collary.

The context: Heely currently serves as the CIO of banking and financial services at Macquarie Group. He previously served as the IT transformation director for Nationwide Building Society and was involved in technology and program management at Barclays and JP Morgan Chase in the UK.

Heely is tasked with overseeing Wespac’s technology infrastructure, cybersecurity and engineering, working in close partnership with the bank’s digital and AI teams.

What they said: “Richard will lead the next phase of Westpac’s technology transformation, building on recent progress to modernise core systems, lift resilience and strengthen the bank’s cyber and technology capabilities,” CEO Anthony Miller said.
