The news: Woodside Energy has shut-in production at its Shenzi offshore production platform in the US Gulf of Mexico due to an onshore refinery losing power, a company spokesperson said.

The numbers: Despite the pause, Woodside shares were up 1.8% to $23.87 by 1:50pm AEST.

The context: The shut-in follows a partial evacuation of personnel from Shenzi in line with the company's severe weather response procedure on Tuesday, as well as evacuation of all personnel from its shorebase and warehouse facilities in Louisiana.

The spokesperson said that Woodside continues to track Hurricane Francine and assess its onshore and offshore facilities for any impacts. They said it will resume operations once it is safe to do so.
