Woodside pauses work at US ammonia project after fatality

The news: Oil and gas giant Woodside Energy has paused work at its Beaumont Clean Ammonia project in the US after the death of a worker.

The numbers: Woodside said an employee of contractor OCI was killed in an incident at the Texas site. The project is owned by Woodside while the construction is managed by OCI.

Woodside shares were trading 2% higher at $26.59 in early trading on the ASX, tracking a rise in oil prices.

The context: Woodside said it had stood down all work at the project and a full investigation will be initiated. The incident occurred during work activity being carried out at the site, and all other people were safe and accounted for.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill called it “a very sad day” and said the company is providing support to OCI and its contracting company.

Woodside said it was working closely with relevant authorities and regulators, and senior management is heading to the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site and will be working to provide support to the employees.
