Woodside secures sales agreement with Alcoa to supply domestic gas in WA
The news: Woodside Energy has signed a gas sale and purchase agreement with Alcoa of Australia for the supply of 31.1 petajoules of domestic gas from its Western Australian portfolio from 2027 to 2030.
The context: The sale follows approval from the Western Australian government in December to extend the Pluto-Karratha Gas Interconnector operation, enabling gas to be processed using existing capacity at the Karratha Gas Plant and brought to the market as a new contracted domestic supply.
Woodside holds over 21% of the gas market share in Western Australia, having supplied the region for more than 40 years.
What they said: “[The contract] also underlines the ongoing effectiveness of Western Australia’s domestic gas policy in providing stable and predictable policy settings that underpin the delivery of gas to major industrial users, enabling lower-emissions energy use in key processing sectors,” Woodside chief commercial officer Mark Abbotsford said.
