Woodside’s Browse gas field project given state significant status by WA govt

The news: The Western Australian government has declared Woodside Energy’s proposed Browse to North West Shelf Project a state significant project.

The context: The state significant project status reflects the highest prioritisation level given under the WA government’s lead agency framework, which is designed to guide proponents through the approvals process.

Woodside said the project is expected to support domestic gas supply while boosting economic benefits for the region.

This follows a report from an independent economic assessment that found the project could deliver a long-term uplift of around $141 billion in gross domestic product nationally and approximately $56 billion in taxes and royalty, including approximately $19.8 billion in petroleum resources rent tax.
