Woolworths posts 3.2% rise in Q3 sales, says Big W trading remains 'challenged'
The news: Supermarket giant Woolworths reported a 3.2% uptick in third-quarter sales to $17.3 billion, boosted by double-digit growth in its eCommerce segment.
The numbers: Woolworths' core Australian Food business saw a 3.6% increase in sales year on year to $13.1 billion. Group eCommerce sales rose 15.7% year on year to $2.2 billion.
The context: Woolworths CEO Amanda Bardwell said "the market remains competitive and consumer outlook uncertain", with cost of living a continuing concern for customers.
The group said performance at its discount department store Big W "remains challenged", with a slow growth in its clothing division continuing into April.
