The news: Confectionary maker Yowie Group has partnered with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to allow Yowie the rights to develop, manufacture and sell confectionary lines containing NBA-themed toys in Australia, the US and New Zealand.

The numbers: Yowie’s first NBA licensed confectionary products will be available in early 2025 and the licensing partnership ends on 30 September 2026.

Yowie said it was committed to making minimum guaranteed payments/licence fees of at least $2.5 million. It noted that it might require a capital raise or debt funding in addition to its current reserves for the launch.

The context: The initial NBA confectionery offering will feature a foiled chocolate hollow NBA basketball containing an NBA-themed Yowie toy. It will include a toy for each of the 30 NBA teams.

What they said: The ASX-minnow's chair Sean Taylor said: “Yowie welcomes the addition of the NBA and the opportunities this brings to execute the company strategy to drive growth and increase revenue for the Yowie”.

“Yowie will continue to look to acquire relevant large-scale licences both here in Australia and globally to complement ‘better for you’ consumer and retailer demand … the synergies between NBA and Yowie are terrific,” he said.
