While Peter Dutton managed to get under Anthony Albanese's skin during last night's debate, it also showed the opposition leader still has a long way to go to convince swinging voters.
"Evil genius." Those were the first words Peter Dutton offered when asked for his first thoughts on Trump confidante Elon Musk in Sunday’s final leader’s debate.
The opposition leader's comment about the controversial billionaire was revealing, given the increasingly unpopular Trump administration has become a weight around his neck in this campaign.
It was also an interesting choice of question for Channel 7, when very few Australians are focused on Musk as they cast their votes. (Albanese's response to the same question was "very rich man".)
Stoking interest in a fourth election debate was going to be a struggle. The candidates immediately settled into their routine, dishing out the familiar talking points they’ve honed relentlessly.
