Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is openly questioning the objectives of President Donald Trump’s war on Iran, underscoring Australia’s growing frustration with the United States as the conflict drives up fuel prices and deepens inflation fears.
With his government under pressure from the economic fallout, the prime minister used a media conference on Monday to signal it was time for the conflict to wind down.
He doubled down on Monday night in an interview with the ABC’s 7.30, making clear to Washington that sustained high global fuel prices will hurt Australians.
“I want to see a recognition of the economic damage that this conflict is continuing to result in,” Albanese said.
